You’re engaged! Yass! But now you’re panicking about what wedding planning mistakes you should avoid! Whether you’ve waited for this moment your whole life, or it’s only been on the radar since you met your now fiancé (eek!), I’m here to help you know what NOT to do when you start planning your wedding. Here are my top 5 wedding planning mistakes you don’t want to make!

- This one might be obvious, but Don’t leave it all to the last minute!
Wedding vendors book up fast, so the likelihood of landing your dream venue or photographer with two months notice is slim. Start planning the ‘big’ things early; venue, photographer, videographer, dress. You’ll take the pressure off yourself big time!

2. Don’t put pressure on yourselves or the day!
Let’s face it, weddings can be stressful. And putting pressure on the day to be absolutely perfect in every inconceivable way ain’t gonna help that. You’ve got to remember that everyone will be there to celebrate with you. Your friends and family aren’t going to care if the centre pieces aren’t sitting at an exact 45 degree angle to the top table! Something is bound to go a little off piste at some point, but that won’t be the thing you remember in 20 years about your day!

3. Don’t try and do everything all at once!
If you start your planning early enough (see step 1!) then you shouldn’t worry about trying to plan EVERY SINGLE THING in the first week of getting engaged! Make a checklist of all the things that you need to do between getting engaged and getting married, and sort that list from ‘most’ to ‘least’ important. Check things off as you go, and before you know it, you’ve completed the list! Enjoy the planning stage as much as you can!

4. Don’t stray too far from your budget!
I would suggest having an ‘ideal’ budget that you want to stick to, and then also having a figure above that that you absolutely won’t go over. Money can start stacking up as you go through the planning stage, so having a firm budget is crucial. Break it down into how much you’re willing to spend on each section (dresses, suits, venue, photo/video, flowers, catering, bar, etc.) and that way you can better come to a decision about the ‘overall’ budget. You don’t need to bankrupt yourself! There are loads of different ways to save, as soon as you prioritise what’s most important to you!

And finally…
5. Don’t let anyone else dictate your day!
Remember who’s day it is! As much as you guys want your friends and family to have an amazing day (obviously!), you’ve got to remember that the day’s about you as a couple. That’s why they’re all there after all! If you both want to have pizza instead of a chicken dinner at the reception, then have the flipping pizza! If the thought of speeches makes you feel a little bit ill, skip them! Sure, Auntie Blanche might tell you, “it’s not a wedding without speeches!”, but guess what? It is! Make your day what you want it to be.

I hope that if you’ve been feeling a bit ‘wedding anxious’, this has helped a little! Could you imagine having a stress free wedding planning experience? The more stress free the planning, the more stress free the wedding!
